Rebecca graces the covers of Nottingham Evening Post (her hometown) with fellow Nottingham actress Vicky Mclure. Enjoy Rebecca's article on her bunny boiler character, Joanna Stockerton, on UK's mosts celebrated detective series ITV's Midsomer Murders.

"I've always been cast in these roles that are specific to a place, whereas here I'm just playing a normal rich girl.
"It's nice to break the assumption that you have to be a certain colour to play a particular role.
"It was a delightful programme to work on – definitely one of my top TV roles – and I hope it will give me more opportunities because I'd love to be in a period drama or play a detective."
Hollywood stars have been queuing up recently to criticise the film industry for not casting black, Asian and ethnic minority stars in Oscar-worthy roles and Rebecca can see a similar issue in British TV.

Help Me Highlight Modern Slavery This Week

Dig Out A Bright Lipstick and Get Seen for Unseen! #GSFU 

THERE’S nothing I love more than playing a strong female lead, and they don’t come much stronger than in a play about human trafficking written by Eve Ensler - global human rights activist and internationally renowned playwright. 

In the play, Avocado, I played a young woman sold as a sex slave by her mother. For ten years she was trafficked from one place to the next, including in a container of rotting avocados – where she struggled for breath. I spoke to an asylum seeker to find out how they would survive such an ordeal, and learned they find sanctuary in the simplest of things – like, in the case of the woman I played, the dark behind her eyes. 

Eve Ensler - who wrote The Vagina Monologues and campaigns to end violence against women - is a woman for whom I have incredible respect. She began the charity One Billion Rising after the devastating discovery that one in three women will be beaten or raped during their lifetime. I felt really privileged to help her explain the terrible tragedies that some women still face.

Avocado was held at the West Yorkshire Playhouse – a Theatre of Sanctuary, passionate about supporting refugee and asylum communities in the region. After the play, a real talking point, we had some discussions on migration, asylum and trafficking. There, I met the incredible Andrew Wallis chief executive of Unseen - a Bristol charity working towards a world without slavery. 

Part of Unseen’s work is to support survivors of human trafficking at its 24hr safe house where just £3 pays for a hot meal. This week (12 - 18 October), Unseen are trying to raise more awareness about modern slavery, and if you are reading this blog, it would be great if you can help too. The campaign ends wit the UK’s national Anti-Slavery Day on Sunday.

If you want to get involved, all you have to do is to dig out something bright, - a neon ribbon/pair of bright shades/hot pink lipstick - whatever you have, strike a pose and snap your selfie. Then post it on social media using the hashtag #GSFU highlighting modern slavery.

Rebecca Grant joins cast of Midsomer Murders

  Actress Rebecca Grant will be joining the cast of Britain's beloved detective drama Midsomer Murders alongside Neil Dudgeon and Gwilym Lee in upcoming two hour episode 'Breaking the Chain.'

Previously, Rebecca performed the world premiere of 'Avocado.' A one woman play written by Vagina Monologues playwright and founder of V-Day and One Billion Rising, Eve Ensler. The play, directed by Mark Rosenblatt, had such a profound impact on audiences at The West Yorkshire Playhouse and encouraged live post play panel discussions lead by other leading Human Rights Campaigners namely actress Monique Wilson and writer Bidisha Mamata.

After receiving four/five star reviews in the press 'Avocado' has been selected to be performed by Rebecca at Latitude Festival this year as a live reading on the 17th of July. For more info please visit:

NOTTINGHAM ACTRESS RETURNS TO SCENE OF FORMER TV TRIUMPHS

Nottingham actress Rebecca Grant has returned to the midlands scene of some of her previous TV triumphs to take to the theatre stage for a hit production in Manchester and Stoke on Trent.

 

The show – Around the World in 80 Days – has already received a rare five star review in the theatre magazine, The Stage. The magazine reviewer described it as a “clever, uplifting romp around the world” and “a sheer joy from start to finish.”

 

And locally in Stoke on Trent it has been widely acclaimed and attracted increasingly large audiences.

 

For Rebecca, a former star of the award winning TV series, Holby City, it is a return to region where she has also starred as hardheaded lawyer, Shaheen Wazir, in episodes of the TV prison series, Prisoners Wives, and in episodes of Emmerdale.

 

In the current production, which she says is one of the “most fun shows” she has ever been in. She is one of a cast of eight and plays the role of Princess Aouda. That role was taken in the original film of Around the World in 80 Days by Shirley MacLaine.

 

The initial run of the show is at Stoke on Trent’s New Vic Theatre and when that ends the cast will head for Manchester where the show will go on from 22 July to 16 August at the Manchester Royal Exchange.

"Some Like It Hot" Cabaret by Rebecca Grant turns up the heat in Mayfair

Holby City and Prisoners Wives actress was described as "witty" and "dazzling" by the Daily Mail and caused near 'uproar' from her cabaret show "Some Like it Hot" at Bellamy's, Mayfair. Owner Gavin Rankin teamed up with West End conductor and pianist Tom Wakeley to cook up a plan to spice up the month of August. Rebecca Grant came up with the torchy image and repertoire of songs fulfilling Gavin's expectations which was to create a night of naughty songs for bad girls. cont. below

Bellamy's is one of two places in London HRH The Queen has dined at so needless to say Rebecca's audience, in which she intimately had to perform to, consisted of Lords, Ladies, bank and business owners as well as the Queen's personal pianist Confrey Phillips. However, after each cabaret she gained full praise, participation and standing ovations, the audience would not leave their seats and insisted on joining in singing more familiar songs. Rebecca says "This feels like the true essence of cabaret how it was where the audience want to get involved and basically sing, dance and play the piano the whole night through!"
